Rhododendron 'Jeanne Artois'

This Rhododendron, from seed distributed by the American Rhododendron Society, was cultivated and selected by Philippe de Spoelberch. The original hybridizer is Richard Murcott, an American Rhododendron specialist. It was named in memory of Jeanne-Marie Artois, the last member of the brewers family Artois. Around 1797, they developed the landscape park of Wespelaar (today next to the Arboretum). Rhododendron 'Jeanne Artois' blooms abundantly in April-May and has beautiful yellow to pale yellow flowers. It is a dense shrub with a round shape, typical of the classic hybrids in the Pontica section.
