Magnolia ‘Purple Star’

Magnolia 'Bjuv' x Magnolia ’Purple Breeze’

Philippe de Spoelberch crossed 2 own selections and as a result, obtained a very floriferous and perfectly upright tree with a central main branch and with firm, purple red flowers. Magnolia ‘Purple Star’ blooms somewhat later (mid-April) than M. ‘Purple Breeze’ and is more frost resistant. Thanks to the crossing with M. ‘Bjuv’, its flowers are not floppy. When opening, the flowers point nicely upwards, which gives them a star like shape when seen from below. Hence the name ‘Purple Star’. They spread a soft, fresh smell.
