Magnolia 'Bjuv'

The relatively small flowers appear in April - May and are white with a distinctive reddish purple base and similar stripe in the middle of the tepals. Philippe de Spoelberch took cuttings of a Magnolia cylindrica plant in Karl E. Flinck’s garden in the village Bjuv, Sweden. The tree was selected because of its compact and colored flowers. Karl Flinck thought it was a hybrid with M. liliflora. However, the typical M. cylindrica fruits indicate that it is probably a simple very colored selection of this species.
